Health Areas

The three health-related Millennium Development Goals provide the vision for our work at the UN Special Envoy’s Office. Our efforts focus on reducing child mortality (MDG 4), improving maternal health (MDG 5) and lessening the burden of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (MDG 6). Each of these goals has specific targets that were established when the Millennium Development Goals were written and approved by 193 countries. Some of the goals have been updated to reflect progress or new developments — such as anti-retroviral drugs for treating HIV/AIDS – that were not available when the goals were originally ratified.
